Tampa ACA Marketplace Plans

Once the tax credit comes off, a Marketplace plan is often much cheaper than people assume. We line up plans from several carriers, look up your doctors and prescriptions, and keep every screen visible to you while we work. There is no charge for the consultation.

What Marketplace plans are and who they suit

Marketplace plans are health plans sold through the federal exchange, which in Florida means HealthCare.gov. All of them cover the same core benefits, and none can refuse you or raise your price over a health condition. The differences come down to premium, deductible, network and what you pay when you get care.

They tend to fit best for people who buy their own coverage and qualify for an income-based premium tax credit. That includes the self-employed, early retirees without another plan, gig workers and employees whose employer offers no coverage. If you earn too much to get help, we will tell you, and we can also go over the options on our Individual Health Insurance page.

Being an independent insurance agency lets us show you plans from many carriers, not one company's list. The Marketplace plans we help you enroll in are identical to the ones you would find yourself, at the same price.

What we do on a Marketplace review

Tax credit estimate
Your credit hangs on two things: what you think you will earn this year and who you will claim on your taxes. We pin those down first, before any plan comes up on the screen.
Side-by-side plan comparison
You see bronze, silver and gold options from multiple carriers in one view. Premium, deductible, out-of-pocket max and copays sit next to each other, so nothing is buried.
Doctor and medication check
We look up your doctors, hospitals and medications in each plan's network and drug list. If a plan drops someone you see, you know before you sign.
Screenshots of each step
We take screenshots of the comparison, the network search and your final application. You keep them, so you can see later what was found and what was chosen.
Enrollment done with you
We complete the application together on the exchange and confirm the plan, the start date and the first premium due.
Help after you enroll
When your income changes or a carrier sends a notice you do not understand, give us a call. We look at it with you and update your application if needed.

When a Marketplace plan is worth checking

  • Your work coverage ended

Coverage loss starts a special enrollment period, often 60 days. Let it pass and you could go without a plan until the next year.

  • Your renewal price went up

Rates and networks shift each year. Letting a plan renew on its own can leave you paying more for less than a newer plan offers.

  • What you earn has changed

A raise, a lost contract or a new business can shift your tax credit sharply. Updating it early makes a surprise at tax time less likely.

  • Your doctor is out of network now

When your current plan stops including your doctor, another plan might still have them. We look before open enrollment ends.

  • You buy your own plan at full price

Plenty of people have never found out if they qualify for help. Having us check is free.

How a Marketplace consultation runs

  1. 1

    A short phone call

You tell us who needs coverage, your rough income and any doctors or medications that matter. It takes about as long as a coffee break.

  2. 2

    We build the comparison

We pull plans from the carriers selling in Hillsborough County and narrow them to the ones that fit. Then we set them side by side.

  3. 3

    We walk you through it

At our office or over video, we share the screen and go line by line. We point out the tradeoffs plainly, like a low premium with a high deductible.

  4. 4

    You choose and we enroll

Once you pick, we finish the application together right there on the call and screenshot the confirmation. You hang up knowing your start date and first payment.

What sets your Marketplace premium

You pay nothing for our help. The company you pick pays us, and your plan price is the same either way. Your monthly cost comes down to a few things we look at first.

Your income
Your premium tax credit depends on the income you expect. The less you earn, the larger the credit, and certain silver plans also cut your deductible and copays.
Age and tobacco use
Prices can be higher for older enrollees and for tobacco users. Your health history has no effect on price.
Metal level
Bronze means a smaller premium and a bigger deductible. Gold means a bigger premium and lower costs when you get care. Silver lands in the middle.
Network type
HMOs with narrower networks usually cost less than plans that cover doctors outside the network.
Who is on the plan
Putting a spouse or kids on the plan changes both the premium and the credit. See our Family Health Insurance page for more on that.

Marketplace questions we get a lot

Something not covered here? (813) 437-9168

When am I allowed to enroll?

Open enrollment starts every fall and ends in January. Outside that stretch, you need a qualifying life event, such as moving, getting married, having a baby or losing other coverage. Most of those events open a 60-day signup window.

Does going through an agent cost more than enrolling on my own?

No. Your premium is identical with or without us. Carriers pay us, which is why the consultation costs you nothing.

What if I earn more or less than I estimated?

The tax credit is reconciled when you file your taxes. Earn more and you may have to repay part of it; earn less and you may get money back. Let us know right away about a raise or a lost contract, and we will update your application so filing goes more smoothly.

Will my doctors take the plan?

Every plan has its own network, so it varies. Before you choose, we look up each doctor and hospital you list in every plan and save screenshots of the results for you to review.

Are dental and vision part of a Marketplace plan?

Standard plans usually leave out adult dental and vision. We can set you up with separate plans for each; see our Dental Insurance and Vision Insurance pages for details.
